“QUO FATA FERUNT”

 Welcome to the website of the Kindley High School Alumni Association.  The Association is open to all former students and faculty that attended Kindley High School located on Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda between 1962 and 1970.

 Throughout my life I have always remembered the motto which appears on the official Bermuda crest “Quo Fata Ferunt” - whither the fates may carry us.  Adapted from Virgil’s Aeneid “…and so we set sail, though none could say where fate may take or settle us”, the phrase had special meaning to those intrepid souls of the Sea Venture who set out in 1609 whose fate it was to be shipwrecked and washed ashore on the island.  So too should it have special meaning to each of us who left those shores to find our own fate.

The rare opportunity that we shared living in one of the most beautiful places in the world and growing up as young adults in a different environment than most other Americans, one would think would be reward enough, but there is more.  The size of our school allowed us to make friends and know not only those people in our own classes, but others both above and below.  The unfortunate aspect of our youth was the fact that most of us were unable to remain in our island paradise.   Friends came and went as their fathers were reassigned or moved away or we graduated and moved off to college, the military or wherever.  Each of us began our own separate journeys.  Only in the past few years with the emergence of the internet, numerous “mini’s” and the huge success of the 1998 Orlando and recent Las Vegas 2000 Kindley High School Reunions, have we renewed those friendships and even made some new ones. 

The future holds the promise of more opportunities to share our memories.  It is  going to be my personal honor to host the 2003 Reunion in San Antonio, TX.  Plans are already underway for bringing together many of our current alumni as well as finding more of our “lost souls” to join us in what promises to be the best get together yet.  Watch for updates as the time gets nearer, or contact us….Because as everyone knows, everything is bigger and better in Texas.
